The Australian Production Design Guild

THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WHO’S WHO IN THE DESIGNER WARDROBE

The Australian Production Design Guild (APDG) is the voice of production design in the stage and screen industries for Australia. On Tuesday the 18th of May, the who’s who of the theatre and movie design world will come together to launch of the APDG’s official website.

Guest speakers on the night will be prominent designer, Roger Ford, and Academy Award winner (Babe) and set decorator, Kerrie Brown, who will share their experiences working on the film adaptation of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe with guests.

The launch of the official website is a continued step in developing a centralised and organised body who will ultimately assist in the professional development of the film and design industry in Australia and internationally for young Australian designers. The site itself has been funded by high profile industry leaders such as Catherine Martin (Australia, Moulin Rouge), Owen Paterson (Speed Racer, V for Vendetta, The Matrix Trilogy) and George Liddle (Daybreakers, Dark City) to name but a few.

The APDG network and website will also provide an opportunity for young designers graduating from national arts institutions such as NIDA and AFTRS to begin to find their feet within the profession, source professional standards, seek advice from industry leaders and employment opportunities, and ultimately pursue further professional accreditation.

Michael Scott-Mitchell, Head of Design at NIDA states” Both NIDA and AFTRS is focused on fostering a greater awareness of the respective design roles. Whether designing for film, television, theatre, opera, musical theatre, ballet, contemporary dance or events, many designers operate as freelance professionals and work on a contract to contract basis. They may well be part of a large body of collaborators working toward a common goal. Opening up dialogue between designers is where we believe the Guild will provide succour”.

The official launch of the APDG website and Guest Lecture will take place at:
