The 2010 ADG AWARDS

The ADG Awards celebrate the creative achievement of directors in film, television and new media platforms.

The Australian Directors Guild Awards for 2010 were presented at the Astral Restaurant Star City,Thursday September 23 in Sydney.

The awards celebrate the creative achievement of directors in film, television and new media platforms. Altogether, there were 64 nominations in 18 categories.

New categories introduced this year included documentary features, children’s TV and TV reality/light entertainment. There were also two new digital categories for cross platform interactive and original online programs.

In addition to the peer-judged award categories, three achievement awards were presented:

  • Documentary maker Bob Connolly was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award for a body of work in any genre (presented by Paul Byrnes)
  • Tony Tilse was presented with the Michael Carson Award for excellence in TV drama production (presented by Mark Wareham ACS)
  • Chris Webb was presented with the First Assistant Directors Award (presented by Kriv Stenders)

 

Two key announcements were made during the evening regarding forthcoming events.

Firstly, it was announced by the NSW Minister for the Arts, Virginia Judge, that the major international television conference INPUT will be staged in Australia for the first time in 2012 when it is held in Sydney. With around 900 delegates, the conference has support from public broadcasters, screen agencies and the Australian Directors Guild.

The Australian Directors Guild also announced that it will be holding its conference in Adelaide next year for the first time, in collaboration with the BigPond Adelaide Film Festival and the Australian International Documentary Conference.
