BARNEY HOWELLS

Director 

Barney Howells moved from London to Melbourne early in 2009 and teamed up with executive producer Nik Round to create the production company gods&monsters.
 

Having previously being represented by Partizan in London, Barney has made films for brands including Playstation, Nokia, Ford and VO5.

He has been a finalist at Cannes for ‘Best New Director’ and nominated at numerous European Awards showcasing his imaginative outlook, strong visual style and ability to elicit great performance.
His two well-received spots for MTV, “Pimp Ready” and “Zero” led to His Xbox commercial ‘Master Your Environment’ which was shortlisted at the British Television Advertising Awards and won Creativity Online’s Platinum Award.
 

Fulfilling a dream to live and work in Australia, 2009 was an exceptional year for Barney and the team at the Melbourne based gods&monsters. Filming a wide range of commercials for brands such as Kraft, Nature’s Organics and a new performance based Kmart campaign, the year ended with a shoot in Mexico for Pepsi Co. brand Red Rock Deli Chips.

Barney’s background saw him working with some of the U.K industries greatest directors including Traktor, Daniel Barber, Antoine Bardou-Jacquet and Mehdi Norowzian. In his capacity as director’s assistant he was able to garner invaluable insights into the treatment process and privileged on-set experience working on iconic campaigns in the U.K and abroad. Taking the initiative, Barney’s early directorial talent was spotted by RSA where he was signed. Very soon his work with Traktor led him to Partizan where he continues to enjoy a fruitful relationship.

Barney’s passion is in collaboration. Be that with acting talent, his talented crew and producing team or most importantly the creatives who have given him such excellent opportunities to date. An outstanding visual communicator, Barney instils confidence and trust in all those who have worked with him.

The success of gods&monsters would not be for the determination and excellence of both the director and producer team, having the experience, dynamism and industry knowledge makes this new production company such an exciting proposition.
