Oggy Returns With Australienation Follow Up
2008-10-01
For the last four years DP John Ogden has been working on the follow-up to his photographic book Australienation, published in 2000. The title of this new reconciliation book is Portraits from a Land Without People. During the research stage he travelled around the country and looked at over 250,000 photographs dating from 1847 to 2008 to create the most comprehensive anthology of the visual representation of Indigenous Australia.
All proceeds from this landmark book go to the Jimmy Little Foundation's work improving Indigenous health, especially in regard to kidney disease. The book will be launched in February 2009 on the first anniversary of Prime minister Rudd's apology. You can find out more about the project on www.aboriginalportraits.com
John is currently in Virginia to give a lecture and attend an exhibition of his photographs at the Kluge-Ruhe museum, one of the biggest collections of Aboriginal art in the world. He will also spend time in Washington DC documenting the elections before returning home.
John is keen to get back and begin production with his new Red camera. There are some short films, a couple of documentaries and a feature film in the pipeline, as well as the usual TVC's. The Red kit is also available for rental through The Camera Collective, or view www.oggy.com.au
